MOSCOW (MRC) -- The overall imports of high density polyethylene (HDPE) to Ukraine decreased over the first seven months of 2015 by 7% year on year and totalled 52,600 tonnes, according to MRC DataScope report.
July HDPE imports to Ukraine rose to 10,900 tonnes from 8,300 tonnes a month earlier because of increased imports of injection moulding HDPE from the producers of caps and PET containers. The overall HDPE imports dropped to 52,600 tonnes from January to July 2015 versus 56,300 tonnes a year earlier. PE for extrusion blow moulding (EBM) accounted for the greatest fall in demand.
The supply structure by sectors of HDPE consumption looks the following way over the stated period.
Last month's imports of film grade HDPE to the Ukrainian market were virtually equal to the level of June and totalled 4,700 tonnes. The overall imports of film grade PE increased to 25,300 tonnes over the first seven months of 2015, down by 5% year on year. A positive result in this sector was largely caused by the increased consumption of film grade PE in other sectors, particularly, in the EBM sector.
July imports of inection moulding HDPE to Ukraine increased almost by two-fold from June and totalled over 3,100 tonnes. A major local producer of caps for PET containers accounted for such a significant increase in shipments. Demand for this PE grade from local converters subsided by 10% from January to July 2015 and totalled 10,100 tonnes.
Last month' imports of HDPE for EBM rose to 1,200 tonnes from 813 tonnes in June. Imports of HDPE for extrusion blow moulding to Ukraine totalled 7,600 tonnes over the stated period, down by 32% year on year.
July impots of pipe grade HDPE (including natural HDPE grades) rose to 1,600 tonnes from 1,300 tonnes a month earlier because of the increased shipments from Russia. Over the stated period, imports of this PE grade to the Ukrainian market were maintained at the level of 2014 - 7,700 tonnes.
HDPE imports to other consumption sectors totalled 1,800 tonnes from January to July 2015.
