MOSCOW (MRC) - Ukraine's imports of polyethylene (PE)) decreased to 77,300 tonne in first five months of this year, down 18% year on year, compared to the same period of 2014, as per MRC DataScope.
May imports of PE into the country decreased to 15,200 tonnes, compared with 16,500 tonnes in April on the back of a decrease in the supply of low density polyethylene (LDPE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE). PE imports in the country decreased to 77,300 tonnes in January - May of this year, compared with 94,000 tonnes in the same time a year earlier. The largest drop in demand occurred for LDPE and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA).
Structure of PE imports over the reported period was as follows. Last month's HDPE imports into the Ukrainian market reduced to 6,700 tonnes against 7,600 tonnes in April, because of the reduction in purchases from local producers of caps for PET containers. Ukraine's HDPE imports in January-May decreased to 33,400 tonnes in the first five months of the year, down 12% year on year.
May LDPE imports into Ukraine reduced to 4,700 tonnes against 5,300 tonnes a month earlier because of the limited export quotas from Russian producers. Demand for LDPE from local converters fell by 26% to 24,000 tonnes in January - May 2015.
May imports of film linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) into Ukraine increased to 3,300 tonnes, compared with 3,000 tonnes in April on the back of a stronger demand from the local film producers. Total imports of LLDPE in Ukraine were 16,600 tonnes in the first five months of the year, down 15% year on year.
May imports of EVA into the country exceeded 300 tonnes, compared with 361 tonnes. Total imports of EVA in the Ukrainian market declined by 24% to 2,100 tonnes in January-May 2015.
Imports of PE into the other sectors of consumption in January - May 2015 were about 1,200 tonnes.
