MOSCOW (MRC) - Ukraine's imports of high density polyethylene (HDPE)) decreased to 26,800 tonne in first four months of this year, down 17% year on year, compared to the same period of 2014, as per MRC DataScope.
April imports of HDPE into the country increased to 7,600 tonnes, compared with 7,100 tonnes on the back of an increase in the supply of film polyethylene. HDPE imports in the country decreased to 26,700 tonnes in January - April of this year, compared with 32,300 tonnes in the same time a year earlier. Demand for HDPE decreased in all the sectors of consumption.
Structure of HDPE imports in the country looked as follows. April imports of film HDPE in the country increased to 3,100 tonnes, compared to 2,500 tonnes in March on the growing supplies from Russia. Ukraine's HDPE imports in January-April totalled 12,700 tonnes in the first four months of the year, down 11% year on year.
April imports of injection moulding HDPE decreased to 1,500 tonnes, compared with 1,900 tonnes a month earlier because of the reduction in the purchases from local producers of caps for PET containers. Total imports of injection moulding HDPE in Ukraine were 5,100 tonnes in the first four months of the year, down 23% year on year.
April imports of blow moulding HDPE into Ukraine were 1,200 tonnes, compared with 1,100 tonnes in March 2015. Demand for this type of polyethylene from local converters fell by 29% and amounted to 4,500 tonnes in January - April 2015.
April imports of pipe HDPE exceeded the level of 1,600 tonnes, compared with 1,100 tonnes in March as local companies were actively building up additional inventories of the feedstock on the back of strong price rise in Europe and Asia. Total imports of this type of polyethylene in the Ukrainian market declined by 13% to 3,500 tonnes in January-April 2015.
Import HDPE to other sectors of consumption in January - April 2015 were to less than 1,000 tonnes.
