MOSCOW (MRC) -- Huntsman has shut an ethylene oxide unit at its Port Neches, Texas, plant due to a leak, as per Plastemart.
A leaking gasket on an outlet valve forced the Wednesday shutdown of the unit after a release of ethylene and ethylene oxide, according to a filing by Huntsman with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
"Due to the location of the valve, it was necessary to shut down the F6 EO Unit to mitigate the leak and initiate repairs to the leaking component," Huntsman said. The incident should have a minimal impact on the EO and derivative monoethylene glycol markets, a market source said.
