MOSCOW (MRC) -- Braskem America has appointed Mark Nikolich as CEO with immediate effect, said Chemweek.
The appointment follows the promotion of Fernando Musa to CEO of Braskem. Nikolich is a chemical industry veteran with 25 years of experience in the sector, including six years working for Braskem.
He moved to Braskem in April 2010 when the company acquired Sunoco Chemical. However, unlike Musa who oversaw Braskem’s business in the United States and in Europe, Nikolich’s brief covers the US only, looking after its polypropylene (PP) and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene business units, including growth projects in the USA.
Prior to joining Braskem, Nikolich’s career saw him serve in various positions at Himont, Basell, Epsilon and Sunoco. Nikolich holds a bachelor of arts in business administration from Gettysburg College, with executive studies at Columbia University and The Wharton School.
As MRC informed earlier, Braskem SA will soon decide whether to build a plant in Texas or Pennsylvania to convert low-cost natural gas into polypropylene. The factory would produce at least 1 billion pounds (450,000 metric tons) of resin a year and would be the U.S. polypropylene industry’s first world-scale project in about 12 years, said Mark Nikolich, a vice president at Braskem. Preliminary engineering is under way for construction at existing Braskem sites in either La Porte, Texas, or Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania.
Braskem S.A. produces petrochemicals and generates electricity. The Company produces ethylene, propylene, benzene, toluene, xylenes, butadiene, butene, isoprene, dicyclopentediene, MTBE, caprolactam, ammonium sulfate, cyclohexene, polyethylene theraphtalat, polyethylene, and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
