MOSCOW (MRC) -- Global super absorbent polymer market is estimated to be worth USD8.9 bln by 2022, registering a CAGR of 3.31% between 2017 and 2022 according to new research report, as per Plastemart.
Super absorbent polymer is a polymer material produced by partial cross-linking of water soluble polymers which turns into insoluble and hydrophilic properties. It is mainly used in hygiene products such as baby diapers, women’s sanitary pads, and adult diapers. The consumption of super absorbent polymer increases from 1,994,800 tons in 2011 to 2,761,400 tons in 2015, at a CAGR of more than 8.47%. In 2015, the global super absorbent polymer market is led by China.
Europe is the second-largest region-wise market. At present, the major manufacturers of super absorbent polymer are concentrated in Nippon Shokubhai, Evonik Industries, Sumitomo Seika, BASF SE and Danson Technology.
Nippon Shokubhai is the world leader, holding 21.53% sales market share in 2015.
Currently, Asia-Pacific is the largest market for super absorbent polymer, accounting for more than half of the global market size, by value, in 2015. Among all the countries, China dominates the super absorbent polymer market in 2015, closely followed by Japan.
Development policies and plans are discussed as well as manufacturing processes and cost structures are also analyzed. This report also states import/export consumption, supply and demand figures, cost, price, revenue and gross margins.
We remind that, as MRC wrote before, BASF will invest up to EUR500 million (USD625 million) over the next 2 to 3 years to establish droplet polymerization capacities worldwide by revamping existing plants. The rollout of the new technology underlines BASF’s technology leadership and leading position in the market for superabsorbent polymers.
Superabsorbent polymers are polymers that can absorb and retain extremely large amounts of liquid relative to their own mass. They are used as a main component in baby diapers, incontinence products and feminine hygiene products. BASF researchers have worked intensively in the last decade to develop a new technology and optimize the corresponding production processes. BASF will launch a new generation of highly innovative superabsorbent polymers under the trademark SAVIVATM. The launch is scheduled sequentially, starting end of 2016.
