MOSCOW (MRC) -- Russia produced 17,400 tonnes of polycarbonate (PC) from January to March 2015, down by 5% year on year, according to MRC ScanPlast report.
Production of extrusion grades rose by 11% in the first quarter of the year and totalled 14,300 tonnes, whereas the output of injection moulding grades fell by 43% to 3,100 tonnes. At the same, the produced injection moulding grades, quantities of which significantly exceed the needs of the domestic market, have not been shipped to foreign markets yet. China is traditionally the main consumer of Russian injection moluding PC.
At present, Kazanorgsintez, the only PC producer in the CIS contries, is focused on the domestic market. Regardless of the rouble exchange rate and the market balance, the domestic material is always in demand and competitive with imports.
Kazanorgsintez's representatives said the annual schedulled shutdown for maintenance works will not be conducted at the plant in May, as usual. The plant plans to operate non-stop until July because of storng demand for polymer.
