MOSCOW (MRC) -- Swiss masterbatch producer Granula AG and Indian plastics firm Som Shiva have formed a joint venture in India under the name Granula Masterbatches India Pvt. Ltd. (GMI) to produce and sell masterbatches in the local market, as per Plastemart.
The new company will build a masterbatch production facility near Ahmedabad, in the state of Gujarat. GMI will be one of the first occupants of the new industrial zone that is being developed there and it will mainly target sectors including the food packaging, medical, cosmetic and automotive industries in India. According to Granula, production is projected to start in the second quarter of 2017.
Jurg Weibel, owner and director of Granula AG, said: "Right now, there is a huge, unmet demand for basic consumer goods in India. But this is changing fast with a vastly increasing middle class. As masterbatch producers, we see enormous opportunities in the steps India is taking to open up the domestic market and moving to higher quality products. We want to be part of that change."
We remind that, as MRC informed before, one of India's leading manufacturers of colour & additive masterbatches and compounds - Plastiblends India Limited - plans to expand its manufacturing capacity by setting up a production plant in Gujarat. The company identified land near Palsana, Surat, in 2015, to setup new manufacturing unit. The expansion will be funded mainly through internal accruals. Plastiblends has already acquired part of the land and has started construction of manufacturing facility which will be commissioned in phased manner. Currently, Plastiblends, a part of Kolsite Group of Companies, has manufacturing facilities at Daman and Roorkee (Uttarakhand).
