MOSCOW (MRC) -- Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. announced a capacity increase of 5,000 t/y for its Milastomer TPE at its wholly-owned domestic subsidiary, Sun Alloys Co., Ltd., Chiba, Japan, as per GV.
The company said that this is a reaction to upswings in demand for thermoplastic olefinic elastomers. Demand has grown significantly for uses in automotive materials, gaskets and civil engineering joint fillers, building materials, and grips. The company expects further growth globally in line with wider uses in automotive interiors and as weather strips.
Mitsui Chemicals said, that the planned production facilities augmentation for Milastomer is a proactive response to such demands. Construction commencement is scheduled for February 2017, completion is expected for June 2017, and start of the commercial operations for October 2017.
The Mitsui Chemicals Group’s Mid-Term Business Plan positions the Mobility segment as a targeted business domain that drives growth, in addition to the Healthcare and Food & Packaging domains, and has continued to proactively expand operations. The Milastomer business is a core business in the mobility domain.

The scheduled shutdown was not part of any government-mandated planned maintenance but for cleaning and other production adjustment purposes to coincide with maintenance of some other related units.
