MOSCOW (MRC) - Polymir plant, subsidiary of Naftan, shut production of polyethylene (PE) due to a fire that occurred on 18 June, said company's sources to MRC analysts.
The incident was reported on June 18: a blaze of gas mixture resulted in burning pyrogas products. No one was injured in the incident. The fire damaged the technological equipment, resulting to the shutdown of PE production at the second line. The rest lines continued to operate in the normal mode at maximum load.
According Federal Rescue Service, there is no threat to the workers and local residents. The maximum permissible concentration of harmful substances in the atmospheric air is not fixed, the measurements are carried out continuously. The cause of the fire and damage are established.
As reported by the MRC earlier, in late April, ethylene discharge occurred at Polymir; there were no victims either.
Polymir resumed PE production on 6 May. Plant Polymir ("Naftan") is the largest petrochemical company in Belarus, produces a wide range of chemical products, such as low density polyethylene (LDPE), acrylic fibers, products of organic synthesis, hydrocarbon fractions, etc. Polymir was founded in 1968. Technologies of the largest foreign companies from Great Britain, Japan, Germany, Italy (Courtaulds, Asahi Chemical Co. Ltd, Kanematsu Gosho, SNIA BPD, etc.), As well as the development of scientific research institutes and design institutes of the CIS countries.
The producer's annual LDPE production capacity is 130,000 tonnes.
