MOSCOW (MRC) -- Malaysia has not imposed a ban on the import of natural rubber, said Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Noriah Kasnon, as per GV.
The ban is not feasible given the lack of raw material, especially latex, for the rubber glove industry, she said in reply to Senator Ramli Shariff at the Dewan Negara (Upper House of Parliament) sitting in Kuala Lumpur on 25 Apr 2016.
Ramli had wanted to know the measures taken by the government to curb the entry of rubber from other countries.
Commenting further, Noriah said the government, through the Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB), had conducted periodical investigation to ensure that the quality of imported rubber was equivalent to what was declared in the Import Form.
We remind that, as MRC reported earlier, in August 2015, The Ministry of Commerce, Government of China, announced it would review anti-dumping duties on purified terephthalic acid (PTA) imported from South Korea and Thailand. Anti-dumping duties ranging between 2 and 20.1% were imposed on PTA imports from these two countries in August 2010, for a period of five years. The ministry's decision to review these duties follows an application made by domestic producers in June last year requesting the ministry to reinvestigate the case and extend the duties which was due to expire.
