MOSCOW (MRC) -- Jacobs Engineering Group was awarded a contract to provide engineering services for the expansion of Mitsubishi’s polyester film plant in Greenville County, South Carolina, said Hydrocarbonprocessing.
Mitsubishi Polyester Film is the American subsidiary of Japan-based Mitsubishi Plastics. and the largest polyester film plant in the US.
Under the terms of the agreement, Jacobs is providing engineering services for the USD100-million investment, which includes installation of a polyester film production line that is expected to combine high level technology with production efficiency. Mitsubishi plans to use the line to support its business growth in both US and overseas markets.
"We are excited Mitsubishi chose Jacobs to invest in its existing facility," said Andrew Berryman, senior vice president of specialty chemicals at Jacobs. "Our team is committed to delivering a safe, innovative project to support Mitsubishi’s customers and markets around the world."
The project is expected to be complete by late 2017.
As MRC informed earlier, Mitsubishi Chemical is likely to shut its monoethylene glycol (MEG) plant for a maintenance turnaround. A source in Japan informed that the plant is expected to be taken off-stream in mid-May 2016. It is planned to remain shut for around 5-6 weeks. Located at Kashima in Japan, the plant has a production capacity of 280,000 mt/year.
