MOSCOW (MRC) -- Imports of high density polyethylene (HDPE) into Kazakhstan increased over the first six months of 2015 by 35% year on year and totallled 42,500 tonnes, reported MRC analysts.
June HDPE imports to Kazakhstan rose to 8,000 tonnes on the back of seasonal factors from 6,100 tonnes a month earlier. Asian pipe grade polyethylene (PE) accounted for the main increase in imports, imports from Russia remained virtually unchanged. The overall HDPE imports grew to 42,500 tonnes from January to June 2015 from 31,500 tonnes over the same period a year earlier. Local pipe producers traditionally accounted for the main increase in PE imports.
The structure of HDPE consumption by processing sectors remained over the stated period essentially unchanged year on year. Pipe grade PE accounted for over 85% of the total comsumption. The film grade sector was the second largest consumer sector with the share of about 10%.
If the geography of suppliers is considered, Russian HDPE producers still occupied the key role in the local market. Their share was a little more than 77% of the total imports over the stated period. Producers from South Korea and Uzbekistan shared the second and third places in the overall PE imports to the local market.
