MOSCOW (MRC) -- Imports of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) to Ukraine decreased over the first six months of 2015 by 18% year on year, according to MRC DataScope report.
Overall, 63,800 tonnes of PET chips were imported to the Ukrainian market in the first half of 2015. Lithuania is a leader among the major suppliers. This year's imports from Lithuania were 25,000 tonnes, up by 3.4 times from the January-June period of 2014. At the same time, shipments of Chinese grades fell by more than two-fold to 20,000 tonnes.
Imports from Russia and Belarus also rose by four times. 4,000 tonnes of Russian and Belarusian PET each were shipped to Ukraine in H1 2015.
Neo Group's Neopet 80 grade accounted for the largest imports in the supply structure. Overall, the plant shipped to Ukraine 15,400 tonnes of PET of this grade in the first half of the year. Retal, Sirius Extrusion, TNS, and Coca-Cola Beverages Ukraine Limited remained the largest importers.
Processing volumes have been falling for the third year in a row. Imports are also expected to drop in 2015 because of the current difficult economic situation in the country and the loss of the markets.
