Milliken features improvements for lighter PP vehicle parts

MOSCOW (MRC) -- Milliken, US plastics additives supplier, has developed new solutions designed to improve all-round mechanical performance and the aesthetics of polypropylene (PP) parts, as per the company's press release.

The new material - Hyperform HPR-803i reinforcing agent - has the weight-reduction benefits. The synthetic reinforcing agent, used alone or with talc, allows automotive designers to create high-performance PP parts that are up to 15% lighter without compromising performance. Added at a lower addition rate than mineral fillers, Hyperform HPR-803i reinforcing agent ensures lower density PP compounds which maintain their mechanical performance even after multiple recycling and compounding operations. Hyperform HPR-803i reinforcing agent also enables a reduction in color pigment usage and improves scratch resistance of a finished part.

Besides, Hyperform HPN nucleating additives haveinnovative abilities for achieving stronger, thinner and lighter PP parts with stable dimensions, even in the most demanding circumstances. Animations of a PP bumper produced using Hyperform HPN 20E additive will demonstrate how the outstanding balance of stiffness and impact strength contributes to improving all-round mechanical performance in all temperature conditions, and creates room for material downgauging.

"By combining possibilities for weight reduction with high-performance properties and features, Milliken’s innovations are at the forefront of supporting the automotive industry in improving sustainability and its efforts to lower vehicle emissions," comments Wim Van De Velde, Marketing Director Plastic Additives, Milliken.

As MRC informed earlier, in May 2014, Milliken unveiled its plans to double production capacity for the "Millad" NX 8000 clarifying agent for PP at its Allen facility in Blacksburg, South Carolina by 2015.

Milliken is an innovation company that has been exploring, discovering, and creating ways to enhance people’s lives since 1865. The company creates coatings, specialty chemicals, and advanced additive and colorant technologies that transform the way we experience products from automotive plastics to children's art supplies

Spot prices of PET in Russia decreased

MOSCOW (MRC) - Spot prices of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in the Russian market declined slightly in the late last week. Prices for imported PET have decreased on the back of the strengthening of the rouble. Russian producers of PET chips made concessions, according to ICIS-MRC Price Report.

Prices for Russian PET were heard in the range of rouble (Rb) 76,500-78,000/tonne FCA, including VAT.
Last week, spot prices from producers have changed differently. Alco-Naphtha and Senege slightly raised spot prices for the domestic market, while the subsidiaries of SIBUR Group, on the contrary, have reduced them. With the logistics costs, the price of Russian PET in the Central region was at rouble Rb76,500-80,800/tonne CPT Moscow, including VAT.

Buying activity in the spot PET market of Russia remained weak. Converters also reported a weak demand in the market of PET preforms. The strengthening of the rouble contributed to the reduction of the upper end of prices.
Stabilisation of the exchange rate also contributed to a decrease in the cost of imported PET entering the Russian domestic market.

Given the current rate of the rouble, the quotations of Chinese PET purchased in December and with the customs clearance this week totalled Rb81,500-84,000/tonne CPT Moscow, including VAT. Prices for Lithuanian PET from Neo Group have also significantly reduced. Given the difference in exchange rate the price of Lithuanian PET in the Russian domestic market decreased to Rb82,000-84,000/tonne CPT Moscow, including VAT.

Prices of Belarusian PET in the domestic market in Russia were at Rb75,500-76,000/tonne CPT Moscow, including VAT.
